Product Description
The Fostex MR-8 is more than just another digital multitrack recorder. It?s the world's first digital multi-track to use CompactFlash memory cards. But those clever guys at Fostex, have predictably gone a little further by making the MR-8 the easiest to use digital multitrack ever. If you can operate a tape recorder, you?ll be recording and multitracking within minutes of opening the box. By putting all the major controls and functions right there on the top panel instead of buried in a confusing menu system, the MR-8, unlike some other recorders, actually aids you in capturing your musical ideas. In addition there?s great sounding built-in digital effects, guitar amp and mic simulators, handy mix-down effects, plus the ability to hook up to a PC for data editing, CD-burning and backing up your songs. Highlights The world?s first 8-track recording to CompactFlash? memory card. Ultra-portable - the ultimate record anywhere multitracker. Easy to useIf your wanting to get into recording without putting out tons of money....Get this recorder. It is easy to use and makes great sounding music. within a few recording sessions I had figured out how to use most of the functions.
Good Value- but watch that Compact FlashThis recorder does a good job of what it's supposed to do- make basic recordings for practice or reference. The best feature is the fact that it can record 2 inputs at the same time. I usually connect a guitar (directly) on one input, and a Mic for voice on another. It let's me lay down several tracks, then bounce them together and lay down some more.
I have used it for over a year now, with no technical problems.
The menus and functions are reasonably well done, with a short learning curve, but not intuitive. You'll have to look at the manual.
My only major complaint is the fact that this thing will NOT accept all Compact Flash cards. It only works with certain brands and certain sizes. I use Compact Flash in my digital camera...and the brand I had didn't work in this recorder. (bummer) Go to the Fostex web site to verify which Compact Flash cards will work with it before you purchase. You'll be surprised how many well known brands DO NOT work.
