Reviews

5.0 Lovin' every minute!
Took a chance with these last year, found them under a display (as in in the cabinet underneath the display case)at Good Guys (go figure) it looked as though they had been sitting on them a while, after all if the customer can't see them youi can't sell them (duh!). I fell in love with the looks and had to have them without audition (I never do that!)
I find them to have a pretty forgiving nature with source material, up to a point but they are quite capable of casting a harsh light on weak studio work. Some purists may deride being forgiving as artificial, but after 20 years of AKG 240Ms (and their emotionless honesty) maybe I'm ready for a little "candy". The sound stage is HUGE and they are the most comfortable "cans" I've ever owned. While listening to an MP3 of Mission UK's 'Wasteland' I was stunned to "hear" the distance between me and the utterer of the opening line, so much so that I had to listen again to make sure it wasn't just my ears playing tricks. I have never experienced the same effect on this recording with any headsets I have ever owned, including electrostatics.
Sadly, I understand Philips plans to quit marketing their premium headphones in the U.S. This is a real shame as I find them to be a much more affordable alternative to the ubiquitous and horribly overpriced and overhyped Sennheisers. I can only hope Philips reconsider (Europe gets all their really cool gear anyway!). My understanding is that the replacements are even better. I'll just order them from England or Australia, gotta love the net.
