Amazon.com Product Description
Outfitted with a 900 MHz wireless transmitter, these Acoustic Research headphones broadcast a signal through walls, floors, and ceilings at distances of up to 300 feet, letting users wander far from the music source or TV without losing the audio. The phones are ideal for people who get up frequently while working in an office setting, along with listeners who just like to move freely while enjoying high-quality music. Listeners can even walk outdoors wearing the AW771 phones--no line of sight is required between the headphones and transmitter. Thankfully, the audio quality doesn't suffer from the wireless connection. In fact, it excels thanks to the 40 mm driver elements, which deliver rich, nuanced sound with deep bass highlights. The system also comes with an RF noise reduction system that minimizes noise and interference, so listeners won't be bothered by stray radio waves. The AW771 includes a pair of dual swiveling ear cups, which adjust from side to side to fit almost any size of ear. The velvet padding also makes the cups comfortable to wear, as does the soft, self-adjusting headband. Should you own two 900 MHz devices, the AW771 transmitter offers a channel select switch that changes the frequency to accommodate both products. The phones also come with rechargeable NiMH batteries that power up when the ear cups are placed in the transmitting base.

Reviews
2 WeeksMy pair lasted 2 weeks. I found the headphones a little difficult to setup. Not technically difficult, but it seemed like a lot of unnesessary work (there are two volume levels, three if you include the reciever or PC you are plugged into). My pair eventually died and were unable to connect to the base. I also found that the headphones were not as comfortable as other ones I've owned.
Acoustic Research 900MHz Wireless Sterio Headphones AW771I bought this wireless headphone AW771 in Dec. 03 at Circuit City. The first one was defective - On/OFF switch would not turn on the headphone. I exchanged a new one next day I bought it. It worked for 2 month. Then the on/off switch broke again. Now I could not turn on the headphone. Acoustic Research web site (WWW.Acoustic-Research.com) did not exit. I am not pleased this product at all.
Acoustic Research AW-717 Wireless HeadphonesAt Best Buy, I liked the way these feel on my head; they are the type that envelope the ears. Also, I respected AR. However, I thought Best Buy's price was really excessive, so I purchased them though Amazon/Electronics Emporium, and saved about $70! (~$108 vs. ~$37).
I'd say the phones sound pretty good, but not as good as good wired phones. (It seems wired phones' cords inevitably fail, however.) Clicks, static, swishing, and a few dropouts are fairly rare (it seems this genre cannot escape these faults).
I feel I got a super deal on these. Now, I'll see if they last....
Bad ExperienceI have only one complaint about this product and if I had hearing in only one ear, I would have no complaints. The left speaker gives me nothing but static -- much like my former wife. Unlike her, I can at least turn these off. I'm shopping for a new pair, and they will not be AR.
Better than infrared!Comfortable, if a bit on the heavy size, these headphones work as advertised. The charging base/transmitter unit is a bit ungainly looking, but contrary to some other opinions, I find the whole affair well designed.
The headphones are bulky and heavy compared to lightweight wired headphones, but work very well...at least in my environment. I use these exclusively at work, wearing them in my office as well as in the server room. I occasionally experience some signal fade or drop, but this is to be expected. 98% of the time, these work very well. The audio quality is not exceptional, but these aren't billed as audiophile equipment either.
Charging the headphones is easy. You simply place the headphones over the base with the charging contacts on your left as you're facing it. It takes a little bit of finesse, and maybe some attention to detail, to use this, but it's not as hackneyed as some would claim. Overall, these work just fine and for them to work 200 feet away from my desk in a noisy and magnetically challenging environment is a high recommendation.
Big Sound for Little Bucks.........Having owned 3 other wireless headphones, I'd have to say I liked these the best. If you treat them with the care that any electronic product deserves, they will provide you with reliable service. If you drop them they will probably break, so will my portable DVD player. The sound quality is excellent. No they won't compete with $200-plus phones. But for under $75. these phones are as good as you can expect. I highly recommend them.
Cheap JunkThese aren't too good. As others have noted, the design is quite flimsy. On mine, the padding started tearing away from the body of the earphones after about two weeks of gentle use.
Even more aggravatingly, the sound completely drops out on a regular basis. It happens pretty much every time there's an electronic *zing* noise, or other high-pitched sound, in the program I'm watching. I'm currently watching the entire series of Doctor Who in order, which contains many such electronic noises--from laser guns and spaceship hatchways and etcetera--and so I'm losing sound all the time. My headphones will cut out, and then they generally take from about 30-60 seconds to re-tune themselves--during which time I'm missing all the dialogue and music.
Also, the headphones don't seem to like a lot of the...er, non-professional DVDs I've acquired. I have no idea why. I'll get sound for about 30 seconds, and then they'll de-tune for a minute or two, and then on again, then off again, thus rendering the DVD unwatchable.
I'd return this piece of crap to the store, except for that I threw the box and the receipt away. I guess I naively assumed that if I payed almost $70 for some headphones that they'd work properly.
Cheap MaterialsThe materials and design of these headphones are poor. I had a pair that fell off the couch, a drop of less than 2 feet, and both earpieces broke at the hinge point. They are now useless and I cannot get them replaced because the warranty holder is out of business. Stay away from these.
DisgustedI just purchased this product on the 6th of May from Best Buy. Please save your money.. the headphone for mine was defective. The on and off button did not work and after finding out other people had similar problems.. I'm sure the customer dissatisfaction for this product is very high. I don't know why they make junk so expensive these days? I'd rather buy a cheap headphone that is reliable than one that doesn't work at all! My God, I wish we would boycott Acoustic Research!
don't waste your moneyThes headphones produce a very mediocre sound quality when they are working well, which is only part of the time. The sound breaks ups horribly with any volume, the headphones themselves produce annoying physical noise, and slight motion can cause them to drift off wildly. They are junk.
