DID NOT WORKPrevious reviewer Paul Wake is right. I too have a Yamaha Keyboard with the difference that it is a PSR 292. I have Finale 2003 which works perfectly on my Laptop which is a Toshiba Celeron. My Laptop has Windows XP SP2.
The M Audio website http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html states that the minimum requirements for PC are these: Windows 98SE / Me / 2000 (SP4) / XP (SP1).
My computer meets all of these requirements yet however when inserting the CD that comes with the USB UNO I am told that my computer is not fully compatible with the Midi/USB interface and that I run a risk of it affecting the performance of my computer immediately or in the near future.
I installed it never the less and connected the keyboard to the Laptop. I followed the instructions of how to record as I play with the Finale Manual and the truth is that not everything I play is recorded. Only bits and pieces, a note here and there which are completely useless on their own. It is by far NO substitute for putting in the notes one by one with the mouse or keyboard. Therefore I strongly stress that you obtain more feedback before you make the mistake I made of buying it.
don't trust themi've tried to use this on two macs. terrible results
m-audio does not have forums on their site.
there is a reason. their drivers are unreliable and highly incompatible.
absolutely refuse to provide any documentation nor do they accept returns.
if you value the stability of your computer, stay clear. stay well clear.
Easy to set up, works like it should. The only difficulty I ran into was that the MIDI interface didn't show up to be used until after I had rebooted my computer twice. After the second reboot I have had no issues.
Excellent adapter for a PC and Clavinova PianoI did setup this adapter on a Windows XP laptop for my daughter.
She is using it with Piano Suite Premiere software and a Clavinova piano.
Excellent compatibility.
good productI'm trying to hook up my Yamaha P120 with my PC.
I've spend about 3 hours now, tried about 10 different
variations of installation method including deleting
all the USB drivers on my PC...
Still can't get it to work.
Not sure if I got the lemon product or if I'm doing something wrong...
It drives me mad now..
What I like about? nice long USB cable that is plug and play.. only If it works!!
Well.. trying to think of other ways to get it to work...
Sent the tech support mail today.. If I don't get the result
back tomorrow.. the one star will stay...
Well got it working in 10 second by exchanging it...
dang... 5 hours wasted... and it was all because of a defective item.
Hate you ... whoever inspected this item...
Well, the sh*ts happens...
It seems like a good product..
Leason learned:
1. don't spent too much time trouble shooting a modern day devices that are suppose to be a plug and play.
2. Guitar Center, well sometimes, sell a defective product (I think what I bought was someone's return)...
But anyway, they are nice folks, I'll continue to use Guitar Center. This is an isolated incident.
Well.. would like to change the stars to 4 but don't know how..
So here it is * * * *
Great for home use. Install the driver for your Mac!This is a good adapter for home use. Having been a roadie, I can pretty confidently say the Midisport Uno's build quality isn't roadworthy -- the attached MIDI cables are about as thin as the RCA cables that come with most home audio equipment, nowhere near as tough as patch cords for a stage rig. But the average home user, who's not plugging and unplugging in a hurry and stepping on the equipment and such, should have no worries. I have one, and it works fine.
A note about appearance: My Uno's body (the oval part, smaller than an average computer mouse) is a deep translucent blue, rather than the opaque color in the current photo here on Amazon. Also, the cables are all one color, black, though the IN and OUT plugs are clearly labeled in molded lettering. There are three green LEDs: one that lights up when the computer recognizes the adapter, one for MIDI in signals, and one for MIDI out -- handy for troubleshooting.
I bought the Uno to connect my Roland alphaJuno-2 to my PowerBook and play with GarageBand. I took it out of the packaging (a rare treat: a molded clamshell-type plastic package that isn't heat-sealed, so it doesn't have to be cut to shreds to open) and hooked it up, and nothing happened. I initially thought that Mac OS X would recognize it automatically, so it took me a few minutes to realize I needed to install the driver software. Although there are drivers on the included CD-ROM, I downloaded the latest version from the manufacturer's web site, installed, and the Uno instantly lit up and GarageBand informed me (because I already had the Roland powered up) that a MIDI device was now connected. It's worked flawlessly since.
Simple to use; no extra cables to attach -- I think this is the perfect USB MIDI adapter for GarageBand users or anyone else connecting one MIDI keyboard to a computer at home.
It brokeI used this product successfully at first, but then I unhooked to move. When I went to hook it back up at the new house, the metal connection on the MIDI-out thing came out of the plastic casing....busted. I think a product should be able to stand up to being hooked up and unhooked. Piece of junk. Looking for an alternative now...
Might WorkI couldn't get this to work with my Yamaha PSR-275 keyboard, and I couldn't get any support. I tried to connect the keyboard to my PC (which has an Athlon 64, 1 GB RAM, etc.; there's nothing wrong with the computer) so I can play into PrintMusic 2006 notation software. Using MIDI ExpLab, I can output to my keyboard, but when I input from the keyboard to the computer, the computer only picks up what I'm playing in little bits several seconds apart. Same thing in PrintMusic 2006. I can't figure out if it's the product, or something else. I borrowed a Yamaha Clavinova, and the adaptor cables worked with that keyboard, leading me to think the adaptor works fine and that my keyboard is the problem. But then I found an online forum where someone said M-Audio admitted this does not work with all Yamaha keyboards. Note that XP users probably shouldn't install any drivers (there is a CD included); that isn't made clear in the very sparse product insert, but the company's web site says XP should just recognize it. The company apparently hasn't obtained an XP compatable logo from Microsoft, but they swear it works on XP, and it seems to.
I'm adding a little to this review, now, and I'd downgrade this to 1 star if I could: after initially writing this review I got the Yamaha UX16 interface, installed the latest drivers from Yamaha's online site, and my keyboard sends notes to the computer correctly. That seems to prove that the M-Audio Midisport Uno interface was the problem.
so easy to useI have been using this interface with both a Mac and a PC and it works well with both. Great product!
Works exactly as advertised.I hooked this interface up to my laptop and my Clavinova keyboard, installed the driver and the included Cakewalk software on my laptop, and was playing music right away.
How much simpler could it be?
