Saved me 500 $ in service feesHere's why I bought this and why I'm glad I did:
I have a compaq presario notebook with all the bells and whistles (s-video, speaker outlets and all that) and I did not need the cable to hook up my notebook to stereo, tv or dvd recorder as those outputs are already built in.
However, the DC jack went bad just after warranty period and HP wanted huge $$$ to fix it. The dc jack was causing the notebook to go to battery power, was not allowing the battery to charge, the screen would go blank - those are very common issues associated with dc jack failure (read more in forums and newsgroups).
The XC1000 cable features a power jack, allowing the power adapter to be hooked up to it and through it to the notebook. XC attaches to the docking port on the side of notebook, bypassing the dc jack, and still powering the notebook and charging the battery! Works like a charm! It is no longer available from HP - I guess using it as a bypass cut into their profits...
Am very pleased with the purchase!
