Reviews

5.0 Great flute and great price
I bought this as a beginner and have been very happy with it. It plays well and looks nice.
5.0 Great for the price
Well, I think this flute is of a very reasonable price(even though I brought it a while ago, when it was still priced $200). The flute is very responsive, and I have had no problem with it so far.
It might be true that "you get what you paid for". I might not be able to use this flute in ten-fifteen years, but it is so far a great companion of mine. Just remember that not everyone is able to afford a $1000 flute. That "cool" type of comment (you get what you paid for) sounds very apathetic of others' circumstances.
For music lovers who don't have much money like me, this flute is one of the best offer one can get.
I would highly recommend it.
5.0 PriOpen
I'm not a flute expert, but I was very happy to find a silver flute at such a low price. The unit appears to be well made - is extremely well packaged for shipment. It comes in a velvet lined hard carrying case (exterior appears to be nylon like a gym bag) with a shoulder strap. Also has a wand for cleaning but no cloth (get a separate cleaning kit). Comes with a small container of petroleum jelly for joints and plastic caps to cover the joints while packaged (helps to keep the petroleum jelly off of the inside of the case).

The flute itself is manufactured in China. It is silver plated and looks nice and has a good tone. I'm a beginner so I tested it against a Korg tuning device - It seems to play normally, as much as I can play!

I ordered with express shipping on a Sunday and received it on Wednesday. I've been very happy with this purchase - I think it's an excellent choice for beginner starting out who wants a good flute but doesn't want to pay a fortune. I did look at Gemeinhardt as I know they have an excellent name but didn't want to pay $150 more for their low-end model.
5.0 Wolf in teacher's clothing?
Here are a few verifiable facts:
1. The Hamlin Silver Flute was the best selling flute on Amazon.com last year, with hundreds sold.

2. The number of these flutes returned for a refund is zero! That's 100% customer satisfaction! Not a single customer chose to take advantage of the Amazon.com satisfaction guarantee.

3. Yes, I am Mark Nicewonger, the head of Hamlin Music Products, and unlike others who write reviews, I'm not afraid to let you know who I am.
1.0 You get what you pay for.
I am a flute teacher. One of my students has this flute. It goes out of adjustment every week. The adjustment screws on this flute do not hold the adjustments and becomes loose so that the keys don't stay at the proper height. Some local music repair professionals won't work on this kind of cheap flute because they cannot guarantee their work on a shoddy instrument. Please, remember that you get what you pay for. This $200 flute can cost you an additional $200 in the first year in repairs! This is a great flute if you want a pretty toy. If you want a sturdy student flute, do some research and contact yor flute teacher first or go to a local music store that has a repair person and ask them what brands and models they recommend. You don't have to buy it from that store but you will have more information to make an informed decision.
