5.0 Quality here
I've been around quite a few percussionists who swear by LP, notwithstanding I like LP products very much. In fact there hand percussion line is excellent, but when it came to a set of "conga" drums, I didn't really want to shell out bucks, so I shopped around for used (nobody sells used conga's). One day I was looking around and found the Schalloch brand, took a gamble and received them. Now, I haven't tarred the insides yet, but the qualities of these drums are very nice. Schalloch uses the wood of the rubber tree. Rubber trees quit yielding sap after a while and the production of the latex sap stops and productivity ceases -- the trees are then cut down and burned. New trees are planted to replace the old "dead" trees. Schalloch began a recycling program, which turns the wood into products instead of smoke. It's a nice hardwood; not as figured as American Ash or Maple (which many conga's are made of), hard and it does resonate well. The quality of the product line is first rate; the finish is great (no drips, runs or errors). In short, Schalloch puts out a quality product. I received the Conga, Quinto and Tumba with the 3-tone sunburst, vintage finish, they sort of remind me of Ricky Ricardo. The skins are great; everything about this set exudes quality. You won't be disappointed. Plus, your getting a wood which escaped the flame and all the waste associated with it, and saving some poor Ash or Maple, which by virtue of its desirability is cut down and cut up.
