Reviews
a DON'T buy!As a drummer i looked for quality in this product and did not find it. The sound quality is good but its nowhere near the sound of an actual drum. I bought this so i could practice without waking the neighborhood but found that this product probably helped them and me sleep, BORING! If your a insomniac this is for you!!
A Toy - not a Practice Pad.It's small, there are no foot paddle inputs, there are limitations to the preprogrammed settings, there's no MIDI output. The sounds are fine, but not spectacular. My eight year old cousin thinks it's GREAT; I think it's substandard. Fine for kids or screwing around; lousy for actual music making.
Decent product for the price -- Great for rudiments! The Yamaha DD9M Digital Drummer with 4 touch sensitive drum/sound effects pads is a great, playable, sturdy, fun toy/tool. It comes with 54 assignable PCM voices (34 percussion and 20 sound effects) most of which are fairly decent. 100 PCM rhythm patterns (i like the rhumba), 10 percussion sets (i really liked 3 of the sets offered).
The sounds are not super hot, but playable, and definitely better if listened to w/ headphones or, through stereo.
The built in speaker's volume capacity is adequate for acoustic guitar / vocals play-along, but i prefer to use the line-outs into my stereo mixer for further amplification.
Pads & sensitivity: The action and responsiveness of the pads are solid. Never ran into false triggering but at times, you really have to give the pads a firm, square hit to get the desired result. Perhaps calibrated too tightly against false trigger conditions :-) I wish there were greater sensitivity for light touches. I was however impressed with the 4 level touch sensitivity.
This product is great for the price. It's great for practicing rudiments, or for live accompaniment in various entertainment settings (parties, worship, impromptu gigging, etc.)
Bummer?: Wish it had MIDI control. But for the price, fairly decent product.
Fun, but not for recording. The DD9M is a great machine. It's internal speaker is a bit quiet, but once hooked up to an external amp or headphones it sounds nice. The drumpads are a bit small, but you'll manage. It is easy to use, but of course it is no replacement for an acual set of drums. Some of the instruments, such as a cowbell, horn, etc. are fun and sound great. It's extremely good at making fun rythyms and for beginners to learn how to keep a beat. I would not suggest it for recording studio levels, but for any home use/personal recording its great. It also doubles as a metronome which can be useful.
Great !!!I was a little disappointed with this product when I first opened the box. It looked cheap. But, after giving it to my daughter, who is 8, for Christmas, she was thrilled. She loves it, and I dont know who has enjoyed it more...her or the adults. It is great for someone just wanting to learn...wouldnt recommend for a serious drummer, but I ...I mean my daughter, loves it!!!!!
I LIKE IT!Well when i first seen the DD55 i walked away from it because it was so small. When i was looking around the store for another product to check out.Thats when i heard this great awesome stereo drumming sound.I brought one for a practice pad.Don"t let the looks fool you.The DD55 rocks.

I've got the beat!My son who is a drummer found this very easy to use with the built in demo songs and different beats. I loved it because he could plug in headphone and we don't have to hear it.
Small, quiet, but not demure...I expected these drums to be relatively big and boisterous. They're not. They are about 15" across, and the drum pads have a diameter of about 4.5" inches. The pads are also made of rubber, which results in a mark everytime you hit them with the drumsticks that are included in the drumset. However, they have a wide variety of sounds, beats, and rhythms. If you are looking to play them as a hobby, they're wonderful; if you want to use them as an alternative to a drumset, find something bigger.
These drums rock!I got one of these babies for Christmas, which was a suprise because I didn't ask for something like this, but I LOVE IT. But it's malfunctioning from me rocking out so often. The drums sound great for such a small set. The only problem is the pads are rather small, and once you get going, its easy to miss the pads and end up knicking up the machine. There are a lot of beats that you can play along with. Try beat 14 at about 20 with an open hi-hat, it's pretty sweet. All in all, this is an awesome set, the pads are kind of small but you'll get used to it.
