Product Description
Zildjian's innovative K Custom "over-hammering" technique applied to these very thin splashes creates warmer, darker cymbals that are even more responsive, versatile, and sophisticated than ever before! The K Custom cymbals are specially designed to provide more volume and cut with a quicker attack and decay than traditional K Zildjians.Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, and scores more musical movers have sworn by the deep, dry, shimmering K sound developed in 19th century Turkey.Reviews
Great cymbal with less expensive alternativesI recently purchashed this cymbal to add a splash to my kit which is configured with a 22" K Custom dark ride (ASIN: B0002CZXMG), and the Steve Gadd session series of cymbals that consist of an 18" ride (ASIN: B0002F5IBO), 16" crash (ASIN: B0002F5IAU) and 14" session hi-hats (ASIN: B0002ORSP4). Note, the hi-hats are not actually 14" - they are modeled after Gadd's personal set, which uses a 13 15/16" meduim top and 14" thin bottom.
How this cymbal fits is interesting. It is a perfect match for the 22" K Custom dark because it has a subtle trashy quality, but is slightly out of place with the Gadd session cymbals, which are a bit brighter. Another interesting fact is this particular cymbal sounds almost exactly like the Wuhan 10" splash that costs a third of the price of this one (see ASIN B0002F6K4S for that cymbal and ASIN B0002E3NH6 for the same cymbal with a grabber and arm).
Despite the similarities in sound and the big difference in price, I use this Zildjian because I try to keep the kit I use with my K Custom cymbals as pure as possible. However, if you are on a budget I recommend looking at the Wuhan models I mentioned because they are nearly identical.
