So far, awesomeI just got one of these. The Randall nameplate isn't white, it's metal, which is exactly what you'd want on an amp like this. If you want to sound like everything on the radio, this is not for you. You need to save up and either buy a Mesa or a Marshall. HOWEVER, if you want extreme distortion, this is the amp for you. By extreme, I mean the sound of Pantera, Meshuggah, Death, Wintersun, Rhapsody, even Van Halen's newer live sound. It has decent clean, which is a great plus for an amp this inexpensive. It is not matchless clean -- again, buy something else if you want "tube clean". On gain 1 it will do a marshall super lead pretty close on -- it also kinda sounds like a peavey 5150. Gain 1 is where you get your (slightly 80's) extreme o/d sounds, like Rhapsody or Van Halen. As rad as that is, nothing can prepare you for gain 2. On gain 2, the skies will fall and the seas will boil! Nothing else creates the timbre (combination of tones creating the character of sound) of the Randall hi-gain sound. With some tweaking, it's like jamming with Dimebag Darrell (rest in peace). Of course not only that, but that's some idea of what to expect. It's solid state, which means no tubes to change, and it weighs a miraculous 31 lbs. My sovtek, 1-channel 100 watt tube amp weighs 73+ lbs so you can see the difference right there!
If you want to play heavy metal, and you want your guitar sound to be better than anyone else's, you have to get a Randall. If you play well, it sounds awesome. If you are terrible, it will sound like a train wreck -- this is not a forgiving piece of equipment. It will NOT blend everything into a big ball of mud either!. It will teach you to play well, or else!
