Experiment on a budgetDrum heads can change the entire dynamics of any drum kit, from the lowest-end starter kit to a professional setup. These hydraulic heads are actually two layers of mylar with oil sandwiched between them, and they produce a nice, fat sound that cannot be achieved with regular heads. The 14" dry snare head that comes with this pack is not 'hydraulic' (it does not have two layer heads with an oil middle). It does, however, give your snare a wonderful dry tone that complements the hydraulic heads on your toms.
At the price point this pack is an ideal way to totally change the sound of your kit, especially if you want to experiment with different sounds. The tone produced by these heads are great for R&B, funk and some jazz styles.
I also recommend the following accessories:
- Evans drum key pack (ASIN B0002M3BKC), which includes a magnetized drum key in regular "T" configuration, and a drill bit drum key that will make short work of spinning the lugs. Use this with a Campbell Hausfeld DG110400CD Mini Compact Drill with Keyless Chuck (ASIN DG110400CD). This is a compact and inexpensive drill that does not have much power or torque, so it is not going to strip your lugs or hurt the finish.
- Evans Torque Drum Key (ASIN B0002D0HZI) to make short work of professionally tuning your heads.
