Editorial Review

I have to admit that I am no fan of kids' electronic music makers--hearing the same bleeping and blatting tunes for hours on end is a sure-fire way to drive me crazy. But the Sing With Me Magic Cube has a number of charming features that set it above the fray. First of all, the 5-inch cube itself is a pleasing object, ruggedly constructed, with rounded rubber corners that invite the hands. Then there's the music: "Old McDonald," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," and other standard kids' songs played on five instruments (piano, guitar, drums, tuba, and flute). The innovation here is that as each tune plays, instruments can be added to or taken out of the mix with a push of the matching button. It's a clever trick that might help develop a child's ear for the different parts of music. One minor complaint is that the Orchestra button behaves differently from the instrument buttons: when you push it, the song that's playing stops and a new one starts. This is one of those toys that claims to be based on the latest brain research and promises to stimulate your child's mental development through music, but even if it's not much more than a glorified rattle, it will amuse your child without driving you too crazy. Requires three AA batteries (not included). --David Stoesz

5.0 A very nice musical toy
I've been very pleased with my purchase of the Sing with Me Magic Cube. I gave it to my niece on her 1st birthday. Her father is a musician and her mother is a singer, so I wanted a gift that would help promote musical interests. She loves the Baby Einstein videos (e.g. Baby Mozart) which feature classical music, so I decided to get her something that would teach her many of the songs that she is likely to sing when she starts school in several years.

She loves singing and dancing to all the songs on this cube. (BTW, the toy is purely instrumental only ... no vocals ... she has learned the words from others around her who sing the words to the music.) I don't think she understands exactly how to turn the individual instruments on and off yet, but she has lots of fun hitting all the buttons trying to get it to play her two favorite songs -- Old Macdonalds Farm and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

This toy is sure to last for a very long time, as it has thick rubber knobbie corners that cushion it when dropped.
4.0 Almost as good as the mozart cube
I wrote a glowing review for the Mozart Cube and was delighted when a relative sent this one as a gift for my 18-month-old. He actually prefers this one now, because he's learning to sing the songs it features. My only complaint may be a bug in my particular cube -- on "Old MacDonald" and "BINGO," the different orchestral parts are just slightly out of time with one another, growing more so as the song progresses. I'm a musician, so it annoys me dreadfully, but I'm sure my baby doesn't care. He loves it.
5.0 Awsome Block!
My son, actually our whole family loves this. As soon as my son sees this, he smiles and laughs. My son is 6 months and he hits the buttons and starts new songs, it's great for the car seat! You can get it at walmart too, for pretty cheap. It's also nice because all the instruments are seperate, if you want, which makes it quieter.
5.0 Baby pleasing music
My just one year old grandaughter immediately gravitated to the music cube. She quickly knew how to make it work and enjoys the process and varity.

Parents loved the fact that there is also an on & off button so it can ride quietly in baby bag on airline!
4.0 Broke in 4 weeks!
I purchased this toy for my 1 year old nephew for Christmas. My sister said he loved it so much she has to pack it whenever they travel from home. The problem, when I saw her late January the cube had big rubberbands holding it together! It still worked but had been dropped and had cracked. I would think a toy made for that age group would be more durable.
5.0 Can be repaired
If the door cracks, the company will send a replacement door free of charge. I had a replacement part within a week of emailing the company.
5.0 Dropped it
I too have purchased this toy because it had been dropped and broken. My now 2 year old son LOVES this toy. We had received the first one as a gift. He would play and carry it around with him all day long. One day it was dropped and the piece that holds the batteries in broke and then wouldn't work. So I went out to replace the toy.
After having the replacement toy for about 3 months it again was dropped and the same thing happened. The toy is GREAT and very educational. The whole family loves to sing along with the songs. However, I feel that something needs to be done about the area where the batteries are held. The sides of the toy have rubber ends and maybe the battery area should have a rubber end too.
5.0 Excellent even for adults
I bought this toy for my one year old nephew, but am having a hard time letting go. It is soooo cute and I find myself singing along with it and choosing the instruments I want to hear. I know I have to let it go... but it's going to be hard. This toy is as great as other reviews indicate.
5.0 Finding the place to insert the batteries was the hard part
This is a great toy for any child that loves music. It is durable, easy to use, has good sound, and the flashing lights timed to each instrument fascinate my son. The only thing that was difficult was finding where to insert the batteries as there were no instructions in our box that indicated how this was done. So, if you don't get any instructions just look for the on-off switch on one of the edges and find the screw at the end of the purple panel. Unscrew this screw and you will find a very ingenious slot for three AA batteries inserted lengthwise into the cube. Have fun - my son and I are having a blast with this toy!
5.0 First plaything in the morning, last plaything at night...
My son receieved a Mozart cube when he was 1, and after six months we bought this cube.I prefer this one as there are more songs. He is mesmerized with the cube and plays with one or both for hours. At night he lays on the bed watching the lights as the various instruments play. I would recommend this to anyone. I am blown away that something so simple fascinates him so!
