Avoid scratchesIn order to avoid scratches I used an adhesive Palm screen protector with excellent results. The click wheel works fine with the protector and it's a cheap solution.
Awesome* This Ipod nano is excellent! I bought it about a week ago and it is great. It is extremely light and thin, and I already have about 440 songs stored on it. I did have a problem with it; the fact that I couldn't update my songs. It annoyed me but I called Apple Customer Care and they were very helpful. Other than that I have no problems with it. I recommend that you leave the plastic on as long as possible but fingerprints and scratches show easily. I figured out that the back of the Ipod Nano can also be used as a mirror! This Nano will be great for long car rides, train rides, plane rides and waiting in the doctor's office. Great Idea Apple!
AWESOME!!!!this thing is sooooo small! sound is the same as the regular ipod except the thing is tiny! you cant appreceate how small it is until you hold one. get one today! or now!
battery is horriblei got my ipod for Christmas and i can tell you...everything about the nano lives up to the hype except for its battery life. I understand that results differ from ipod to ipod (by reading others reactions) but i'd say that the battery has truely dissapointed me. I think mine on a full first charge (about half a day) lasted only about 2 hours
battery life sucks, some minor flaws, but great overallThis is a great bugger but it has some flaws.
-Battery life stinks. Yes I fiddle with the backlight once in a while, but I am still getting about 7 hours out of this. thats half the facotry specs
-some software flaws. I have to 'reset' it often becuase it randomly decides it no longer wants to fast forward
-cant unplug sync cable with headphones still plugged in
-otherwise these are minor, except for (1) - I love this thing
BATTERY SUCKSSo I was the first kid on the floor with the IPOD NANO, I ordered
one from MAC the Monday of release.
It arrives, we all OOOOH and AHHHHH
I take it home and charge it for the night
Wake up at 5:30, fully charged battery, put it on
and get on with my day, by 10 AM the battery had DIED
CRAP!
I call up MAC and they want to REPAIR this one
I say HELL NO! I just BOUGHT it, I am not sending this back
for you to REFURBISH it, I want a new one, and you screwed
up my inscription, too.....
So I am getting ready to mail this back, when I charge the
battert ONE more time, all night charge, fresh in the AM
This time, it stayed on from 7:30, when I started to use it until
1:26PM, an hour ago, my NANO died from poor battery power.
Watch out when you get these, I am going to return this and hope
I get a better one, if I get another POOR BATTERY, I am going
to get a freaking refund, this is BOGUS
MAC should know better than to release a product that is crap
:/
Before you take the plunge ...I love the iPod. Always have. At home, we have five, including this one: the 4GB iPod nano black.
Before you leap, realize two things: (1) this iPod is extremely fragile compared to other iPods, particularly the tough-as-nails iPod mini (a drop of a couple of feet onto a linoleum floor took out the screen); and (2) the black version gets scratched very easily, and shows scratches far more than any white iPod I've owned (after a day and before dropping the damn thing, it already looked awful from scratching -- and it was treated with kid gloves).
Okay, if you can live with those caveats, and invest in a durable protector (we bought the arm-band holder, which does a lousy job of protecting the iPod nano)--none of which are out yet--then this new iPod is truly an amazing bit of technology. It's tiny (it feels even smaller than the photos suggest), has great sound quality (better, I think, than any other iPod I've owned), and the display is gorgeous (even though tiny).
For me, the mini (now defunct, but bargains still abound) is the better choice given its sturdiness. I'm not up for museum-relic care for my electronics, which would certainly help if you own one of these.
Another beautiful, functional gizmo from Apple. Just know what you're getting. Some websites claim the nano is sturdy. I can tell you, from first hand experience, it isn't. So, you be the judge. (Sure, the thing still played, but replacing the screen will set you back at least $90, and, even on the web sites in question, the screen broke.)
(Oh, and if you see someone taking shots at the iTunes software, don't believe it. It's the best music software out there, and its integration with this--or any--iPod is a joy.)

Follow up ... Apple has admitted a problem with some of the nano screens and is doing the right thing: replacing the units with new ones. BRAVO!

Best iPod ever!!!I'm a real gadget person, this being my 4th MP3 player. This one is definitely the best so far. My first was a Philips 128 MB, which was nice but not enough storage. The second was a Dell 15 GB, which was also great, but very large and bulky. The third was a Sony 20 GB Network Walkman, which was small and had great sound, but the interface was absolutely horrible.
The iPod Nano combines all the good features of my past MP3 players. Granted it's only 4 GB, but it's still enough for plenty of music. Besides, it's 4 GB of flash memory, not hard drive. It's incredibly small, has a very nice interface, and great sound quality.
Also, iTunes is the best music software I have used - better than Windows Media Player, WinAmp, MusicMatch, SonicStage, and all others I have ever used.
Also, keep in mind that it scratches easily, especially the black version. Make sure to get a case with it; I recommend the Tune Belt Armband Case, because the entire front is covered by clear plastic, but the click wheel can still be used. Also, the armband is detachable.
The only reason you wouldn't want the iPod Nano is if you have to have more than 4 GB of music with you at one time. To me, the small size, great sound quality, great interface, and decent battery life make it a winner.
Best iPod Yet - And It's Really NiceI got a "hands-on" look at these at my local Apple Store.
I think this is the best iPod yet. It's even smaller than I thought, yet feels very sturdy. An advatage over other iPods is that it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive and still has a screen. Flash memory is more durable - no moving parts, perfect for exercise.
There are some downsides. The battery will eventually wear out, forcing you to replace the entire iPod unit. Storage capacity is not expandable - bad if you find you want more space. It doesn't come with many accesories - you'll have to buy them separately.
Overall, this is one of the best portable audio players available. I guess quality comes with a price, but there is a way to get the 4GB iPod Nano in your choice of color for free!

This is not a scam - it's a legitimate offer from Gratis Internet, who've received much media attention after giving away millions in products like iPods and PSPs, just to name a few. This company's offers have been verified on CNN Headline News, Wired News, BBC News, Tech TV, NBC news, etc. I frankly thought this was too good to be true, until I saw all the proof that's out there!
Whether you choose to purchase it or get it for free, I highly recommend the iPod Nano!
